Canada: Scandal: Election campaign debate has just started amidst new Lib scandal exposés

Tonite, just moments before the great election debate of the Canadian Federal campaign for parliamentary seats and the determination of a new government with a new Prime Minister, the incumbent minority government of Paul Martin sees two more Lib hi-ups named in the now-clarifying Option Canada scandal. Martin, then Finance Minister, Lucienne Robillard (Intergovernmental Affairs Minister), and Liz Frulla (Canadian Heritage Minister) will have to speak up regarding a program their Liberal government used not only to abscond with Fed funds but also to contaminate the Referendum for Québec Independence in 1995. Blog Angry in the Great White North is keeping up with the government-scandal stories, a service to the entire blogosphere and the public which read us. Here's a Thanks! to you, Angry for letting us know what the new book, by Normand Lester and Robin Philpot, brings to light.

The book alleges that the Liberal government of the time under Prime Minister Jean Chretien ignored Quebec's electoral laws that limited each side of the referendum to a budget of $5 million each.

Option Canada allegedly spent up to $3.5 million illegally.

Paul Martin was finance minister at the time. Lucienne Robillard was the minister responsible for the federal referendum campaign. Liz Frulla was the vice-chair of the "NO" committee.
I think we can expect more of the same both prior and after the election - Lib hanky-panky with the people's money is going to hit unbelievable proportions as the beat goes on. We need a Conservative government to enact its planned and quite draconian Government Accountablity law. - Politicarp
