Arts: Cartoon: Quick before they change it! Captain's Quarters publishes award-deserving cartoon on Amnesty's Gitmo prefab

A leading blog, Captain's Quarters, has published a masterful cartoon that should win honours for political artwork of ruff rye humour. This one's in regard to Amnesty International's purposeful fabrication of a Gitmo that never existed and downplay of a the real Gulag Archipelago that indeed did exist for millions in the Soviet Union. And, while you're at it: read CQ's blog entry on the second memo showing UN General Secretary Kofi Annan's financially-compromised situation with the Swiss company where his son was hired in regard to the Oil-for-Food program. Now, Captain's Quarters deserves some kind of accolades for a fine double-header!

Back to the fanciful Gulag of Amnesty's imaginorium: This is not the first time Amnesty has played fast and loose with the truth, in a field where accuracy is everything. Years back, I received a high-quality news-survey of East European news that since went pay-for (so I could no longer benefit from its reports). This excellent source reported the appearance of posters appearing in surrounding countries in the varying languages that accused free Hungary's police of committing atrocities against citizenry .... perhaps Roma, if memory serves. In due course, the Hungarian Government set the record strait, and was able finally with much difficulty and expense to exonerate its name. But a prejudice had been planted in the minds of citizens of neighbouring countries that would only ease after a long process of time and contrary experiences.

In the meantime, Amnesty made money on its scare-tactics poster campaigns to finance itself. Never trust Human Rights organizations that skimp on, or overblow the truth regarding some alleged occurrence; remember these organizations are part of a hi-ly competitive industry, trying to outdo one another. They have staff to salary, who have dependents to feed, clothe, and educate; they have rep to maintain as active, more active than thou, they have bugets for projects that are investments in front-loaded time-spent in salaried staff meetings, they have websites to maintain, emails and snail mails to send, posters to contrive, etc. But, hey, go look at the fab cartoon - wow! - I just went back and actually managed to read the small type: it's by Chris Muir of DaybyDayCartoon and you can click 'im up at the link below. - Owlb
