Politics: Benevolence: Good cause swindles support to Make Poverty History

The yungest member of our refWrite team, also perhaps the jungest, Owlie Scowlie, has signed-on to a timely political peition. He tells me that when he did his sleuthing, Owlie Scowlie tried to get a gander at the wording of the petition before he signed it, to get to the next step in the digitally-complex, he ended up clicking and being told he is now counted as a supporter. That overstep on the part of the organization was typical. In the past, for signing one of their peitions around the time of the Live8s Concerts, I was placed on the socialist New Democratic Party email mailing list. I could work that one around to a hi dunder for your amusement / annoyance. But, nay, I simply agree with Owlie Scowli that the contents of this particular trickery are well worth your while. It's helpful to set goals, even tho they be somewhat idealist (even anti-relaistic). Still, it's best to set goals which are measurable and to which individuals and whole countries and points in between can point their own efforts and resources, however modest, and so I join Owlie Scowli in signing this petition. At the same time, I do not endorse the socialism of the NDP, nor the utopianism that besots the Maykka da Poberdee 'Istory mafia. - Politicarp

FROM: Owlie Scowlie
TO: The Honourable Jim Peterson, The Honourable Andy Mitchell

SUBJECT: Make Poverty History

IMPORTANCE: Highest

Dear Ministers Peterson and Mitchell:

International trade must contribute to the fight against hunger and poverty.

In less than a week you will be leaving for Hong Kong to advance agreement on the WTO's Doha Development Agenda.

I plan to vote in this election and I will be watching what your government does in Hong Kong.

I urge you to support trade rules that:

a) grant developing countries the power to choose their trade policies,
b) end dumping, and
c) ensure access to public services.

Trade negotiations must also be made transparent and accountable to the public.

I am counting on you to help deliver trade justice at the WTO. Nothing less will do.

Sincerely,

Owlie Scowlie
