PoliticsUSA: Republicans: Reagan Library debate rescheduled to September2

The Reagan Presidential Foundation and former first lady Nancy Reagan had previously announced plans to hold the first presidential debate of the 2012 cycle at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in the spring of 2011.  As of March 30, however, this event has been rescheduled to September 14, 2k11.

NBC News will be the television partner for the debate andPolitico.com will serve as online partner.

The original plan quoted Mrs. Reagan and stated:

“Ronnie would be thrilled that the road to the White House will begin at his Presidential Library,” Reagan said in a statement. “I look forward to welcoming and watching the top candidates debate the issues next spring.”

Only the leading candidates will be invited, so as to prevent the stage from being overcrowded by what is shaping up as a potentially large field vying in a wide-open contest.

Ozarks First.com says:

"(Simi Valley, CA) -- A Republican Presidential debate originally set for this May at the Reagan Presidential Library is now scheduled for September.

Officials for the library say since many potential Republican candidates for the 2012 election have not yet announced their intentions, the event will now be held on September 14.

Brian Williams of NBC News will co-moderate the debate with POLITICO Editor-in-Chief John Harris.

In a statement, the libray says it will also host a second debate prior to Super Tuesday in 2012."
