Politics: Canada: New Brunswick govt calls election for Sept 18

Canada's Maritime province of New Brunswick is headed for elections for its parliamentary body, according to the Canadian Press's Andrew Vaughan via CBC online (Aug10,2k6), "New Brunswick will hold its election on September 18, Premier Bernard Lord said Thursday."

New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord said he would visit the province's lieutenant-governor Aug. 19, at which point he would dissolve the legislature.

...Progressive Conservatives will no longer have a one-seat majority in the legislature. In the New Brunswick legislature, there are currently 28 Conservatives (including the Speaker), 26 Liberals and one Independent. Lord stopped short of actually calling the election, but told reporters he would visit the province's lieutenant-governor Aug. 19, at which point he will dissolve the legislature.
The provinical Prime Minister was forced to make the call due to the upcoming resignation of a member of the Conservative caucus. In a -originated story from a few days back, both the Liberal and Conservative parties of NewBrunswick are reported to be in a state of readiness for a campaign and election.
