Calendar: Politics / Culture: Punchout Congresswoman in tuff primary with challenger Hank Johnson
.
In a racist assault on a Security Guard on duty at the House Office Building near the Capitol in Wahsington, DC, fire-brand member of the House of Represenatives from Georgia's 4th District, punched the chest of the elderly guard for asking her to present her Congressional ID (she was not wearing the pin that usually gains admission when a guard does not recognize a Representative). The elderly guard is white, the punch-happy Congresswoman is black, a fact of which she makes much. This time around, not everyone in her largely-black House District wants her to continue in office, so she did not win the primary (but led by a few percentage points) and now is in a runoff campaign. Hank Johnson, her opponent (also black), says he's tired of the kind of representation McKinney has given the people and voters of this Georgia area.
refWrite endorses Hank Johnson.
Earlier, refWrite endorsed Sen Joseph Liberman in the Connecticut Democratic primary vote, also Tuesday, Aug8,2k6. It doesn't look good for 2-term Lieberman.
