Diplomacy: UN: Kofi Annan's mission to MidEast fails to produce any results, Iran snubs and rebuffs him.

.
General Secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, made a visit to Lebanon, Syria, and Iran to bolster respect for the UN Security Council's Resolution 1792, which created the international-legal basis for the current ceasefire in Lebanon. ABC News carried an Associated Press report from Tehran, "Annan Snubbed, Ignored in Iran Meeting" (Sep3,2k6).

Annan's visit came after Iran ignored the UN Security Council's Thursday deadline for Tehran to halt uranium enrichment, opening the door to possible sanctions over concerns that the Iranians are trying to develop atomic weapons.
Russia and China seem determined not to back the next legal step in regard to Iran--namely, the beginning of sanctions. But European nations, the USA, and Canada should proceed anyway, even tho Russia and China will attempt to sell and donate to Iran whatever it wants but with sanctions could not obtain from Europe and North Amertica. Let the sanctions begin!
