Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger called late Wednesday to "excommunicate" the rabbis who participated in a two-day conference in Iran dedicated to examining the "truth" of the Holocaust.This development, in regard to both the rabbis going to Tehran in the first place, and now this move toward their excommunication, still astounds me. I can't understand the motives of the renegade rabbis, and I certainly can understand the excommunicaton call of the Chief Rabbi (Israel has two chief rabbis, one for the European-background Ashenazis and one for the Arabic and MidEastern Jews, the Sephardim.
Regarding the Tehran rabbis, I'll certainly be looking for a Kirschner cartoon from Israel on this one.
