USA: State of Union: President calls for end of 'Oil Addiction' - emphasizes non-pollutants

The President of the USA, George W. Bush, called in his annual State of the Unoin address, for an end of USA's "Oil Addiction." This historic call, as I've maintained from the beginning of his Presidency until now, could be effective coming only from an administration like his where the President, and in this case we must add in also the Vice President's oil-industry background, had an excellent inside knowledge of the industry and the players. Now, he needs to enlist not just scientists and technologues, but also automobile-industry captains without whose active participation the retooling different kinds of personal automobiles, the project cannot be effective. To motivate them further, the education of both auto-industry investors and personal-auto consumers must be undertaken and must be effective. On top of this, the full cooperation of federal agencies and the military, in their specifications for new vehicles and armoured vehicles (not least airplanes) must be enlisted, so that from now on only non-pollutantly-fuelled manufactures can be purchased by these government organizations for their activities.

As to the fuels involved, I don't have much confidence in methane-based fuel-products (corn, woodchips, or switchgrasses). Methane in the atmosphere is itself a problem, as I understand the matter.

Overall, the President's 2006 State of the Union Address was excellent. I watched the enitrety on Fox News Channel cable TV, but clicked of the Democratic Response by the Governor of Virginia because regretabbly I found it so boring. - Politicarp
