USA: Illegal immigrants: State governments show fangs to bad-business employers that hire illegals

A pattern is emerging among state governments in the USA, especially in the West, where businesses are increasingly held responsible for hiring illegals at bottom-basement wages. It's been a long time since any states dared to point to the greed motive of businesses, often using rationales and ideologies of the free market from Austrian Capitalist views and AynRand-type atheist Objectivist philosophy. According to these views, anyone who takes death wages is only competing and how the worker got into the American labor market is irrelevant. This, of course, drags down businesses in the same sector which try to pay a living wage, and would prefer only to hire American-born and immigrants who are in the economy and labor market legally. What has to be paid out to afford schools, hospitals, and social services for illegals (let alone the cost of patrolling borders) burdens states which can no longer maintain a level of service appropriate for citizens and legal immigrants who pay taxes. Another element of current trends among state governments is support for President Bush's idea of certifying guestworkers. - Politicarp
